The GIS-CIST won the “European Neighbour Regions” call for proposal within The ESPON 2013 Programme (the “European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion”.

Diffusion of foreign euro coins in France, 2002-2012 

The circulation of the European currency provides an indicator of the movements and contacts between the different regions of Europe. A series of surveys have been conducted to track the movement of foreign euro coins in France since they were first brought into circulation ten years ago. Claude Grasland, France Guérin-Pace, Marion Le Texier and Bénédicte Garnier present the main survey findings (Population & soieties, n.488, April 2012). 

CFP: Fueling Culture: Energy, History, Politics

Submissions are invited for the collection "Fueling Culture: Energy, History, Politics". This collection of scholarly essays, brief reflections, and info blurbs will focus on intersections between energy, history, and a range of cultural formations including literature, film, art, digital media, and popular culture. Abstract deadline: March 15, 2012.

New research opportunities at the LIED

The Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Energies de Demain (LIED) and its international research network, the Paris Interdisciplinary Energy Research Institute (PIERI), have been established in the context of continuous growth in world energy demand and pressing environmental concerns, notably climate change. Research positions are now open.

Geomedia Mapping of the Tunisian crisis (french)

The GIS CIST is developing an integrated tool for exploring and visualizing geographical and media information (Geomedia Mapper programme). The first project of Geomedia Mapper is dedicated to an application concerning the Tunisian crisis.

The founding conference of the GIS CIST has been held on 23, 24 and 25 November 2011 in Paris (École nationale supérieure de chimie 11, rue Pierre et Marie Curie 75005). The proceedings of the conference are available online.

Conflicts and compromises of territorialised globalisation

Globalisation raises new territorial issues ; current political standards are questioned. This boom of new governance issues can be best understood when tested on a geographical object that reflects the new territorial issues : the greater European region.

Strand "BIODIVERSITy"

Strand devoted to reciprocal interactions between societies and biodiversity, which are generally approached separately.

Strand "AGRICULTURE"

Agriculture, territories and sustainable development

Agriculture is a key domain for territories. Approaching it through territories allows linking together the productive, social (right to food), sanitary, cultural, and environmental dimensions, and to see how they interact.

Strand "Mobilities"

Mobilities, Identities and Territories

This strand will study :  interaction between individual and collective levels; relations between territories and identities;   territory as a medium revealing social disqualification, and issue of policy answers.

Strand "Risks"

Risks and territories

This strand, centred on the interference between natural and social dynamics,  proposes  a « global » approach on the interference between natural risks and social practices.

Strand "Health"

Territories and health

Territories play an important role when trying to characterise and understand the health level of a population.
